Leaving an Old Lifestyle Behind and Finding a Sustainable Way to Keep the Pounds Off

Ben, a father in his early thirties, successfully lost 89 pounds in one year and has kept it off. His journey began when he left his old lifestyle of not exercising and eating “whatever tasted good that day” behind and decided to set a good example of living a healthy and active lifestyle for his family.

“I had that moment of realizing if I keep eating whatever I want and never exercising, this is not going to work for me. I’m never going to lose weight, and I’m just going to keep gaining and gaining and gaining.”

When Ben noticed a colleague at work had successfully lost 50 pounds in a sustainable way without crash dieting or self-deprivation, he couldn’t help but ask for the secret. The response? “Lose It!” That day, Ben downloaded the app and started logging his food.

“I put in my target, and I was so excited about the fact that I could use the app to not only see where I was in my journey, but also see that weight graph of the pounds coming off. I could see my daily calorie budget, and I was encouraged to start thinking about how many calories of things that I was eating actually had. It helped me make better choices, and it really helped me change my lifestyle, which was a big deal for me.”

He has never looked back. Tracking, pre-logging, and scanning foods with the barcode scanner when he shops for groceries or eats out are now part of his new lifestyle.

“I just knew I had to make the decision to change. The thing about many diets, some of which I’ve tried over the years, is that they are fads and not sustainable. I wanted to stay healthy as opposed to just restricting what I ate. Lose It! isn’t a diet plan. It gives you the tools to change your lifestyle.

How Ben’s Wellness Journey Improved His Mental Health and Made Him a Better Parent

“One of the best things about my weight loss journey has been how much my mental health has improved,” says Ben. “It’s really given me a lot more confidence and a feeling of freedom — the fact that I can do more things with my body than I used to be able to do all those years ago.”

Before his journey, he had a hard time running for more than 30 seconds. He’d always loved to play soccer, but his weight was holding him back. “I was out of breath and it was difficult to move, and I just didn’t really run anywhere anymore. That really bothered me.” After losing weight and changing his lifestyle, he can run again and play soccer with his kids. “I can actually do these things. I love being able to move around and use my body and run and walk and not be winded. I can climb stairs and it doesn’t exhaust me. That’s been huge for me.”

“One of the best things about this entire lifestyle change in using the Lose It! app and losing all this weight has been the chance for me to now go out and be present with my kids in a way that I couldn’t before,” says Ben.
